PBAT (polybutylene terephthalate) is an abbreviation for polybutylene terephthalate. The raw materials for the preparation of PBAT are mainly adipic acid (AA), terephthalic acid (PTA), butylene glycol (BDO) as monomers, according to a certain proportion of esterification or transesterification reaction and polycondensation reaction to synthesize polyadipic acid/butylene terephthalate ester, and then through esterification, polycondensation and granulation three steps to prepare the final product. PBAT contains benzene rings, so it has high molecular thermal stability, but low molecular degradation rate; molecules occupy a large space and are conducive to mixing with other molecules; It has fat chains, which guarantees good flexibility of the molecular chains and thus good ductility.
PBAT is a semi-crystalline polymer, usually the crystallization temperature is around 110 °C, and the melting point is about 130 °C, and the density is between 1.18g/ml~1.3g/ml. The crystallinity of PBAT is about 30%, and the Shore hardness is above 85. PBAT is a copolymer of aliphatic and aromatic groups, which combines the excellent degradation properties of aliphatic polyesters and the good mechanical properties of aromatic polyesters. The processing performance of PBAT is very similar to LDPE, and the film can be blown with LDPE processing equipment.
PBAT has good biodegradability, and products made with PBAT are easily and completely degraded with the help of natural microorganisms and bacteria, eventually converted into carbon dioxide and water. Due to its good ductility, elongation at break, heat resistance and impact properties, PBAT can be used in the plastic packaging industry, such as shopping bags, garbage bags, etc., and also used in tableware, mulch film and other fields.
